There hasn’t been much in the way of live shows that appeals to my son. He’s still too young to introduce to proper live theatre (musical or otherwise), and he’s unfortunately full onto the boy phase where he’s too “cool” for anything remotely resembling classic Disney and Pixar. He ate, slept, and breathed Cars up until approximately 5 minutes after he started first grade, at which point he realized all his contemporaries were into super heroes.
Now it’s all about the superheroes, particularly Iron Man, whom he refused to watch up until two weeks ago (no mom, it’s too violent!). Well he got over the explosions and the guns when some of his friends were rhapsodizing about the glories of Iron Man, and now he thinks that Iron Man is just about the coolest person who ever walked the earth. I can’t blame him. I’ve been a big fan of the new and improved Robert Downey Jr. myself.
He’s also a fan of Black Sabbath for having the foresight to make a song called Iron Man. But that’s neither here nor there. I’d rather listen to Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath and the ooooold classic metal than modern super-processed pop anyway, even if I value my few braincells left too much now that I’m older to headbang.
Anyhoo, back on track, Disney fortunately has expanded their franchise with Star Wars and Marvel to continue to appeal to those who profess they are allergic to Mickey (like my son), and the old geek farts like my husband. While I’ve decided to reserve judgement on Star Wars (I was traumatized by Phantom Menace, so can you blame me?), I have to admit I thoroughly enjoy the Marvel stuff myself. And now they’re not just in theatres.
They’ve launched Marvel Universe Live, which has me excited in a way I haven’t been since… OK, it’s been a while. It promises to be an action-packed romp with pyrotechnics, stunts, and all of the favourite characters.
If you live near Hamilton, as I do, I’m offering you a chance to go for free! And you barely have to do anything. You give your email address to the rafflecopter widget and fill out a few entries. Actually I’m giving away TWO chances to go for free, as Jennifer of YouPinspireMe and I are pooling our rafflecopter widget.
That’s right. We’re giving away TWO sets of four tickets.
There are a few restrictions, of course! You have to live close enough to go (obvs). You have to be 18 to enter, so kids if you want to go, get your parents to enter for you. The tickets are for opening night, August 6, 2015 at 7PM. Sorry I have no ability to change this. AND… I need you to make sure you have a valid email when you enter… one that you’ll check. Because on the morning of Monday July 27, I will be drawing and contacting the winners by email, and if I don’t hear a response back within 24 hours, I’ll have to draw another winner so that I can put in the ticket requests in time. So keep that email handy!
If you want to go, but you can’t go on August 6–the show runs till the 9th–then I still have some great news. I have a 20% discount code available for select performances. Just use “MULOC” when purchasing. Service charges and handling fees may apply. No double discounts. Excludes FR, VIP and all premium seating. Maximum 8 tickets per code.
Good luck!
