For those of you who have been readers for a while, you know I donate heavily towards food security for the needy. But I live in Hamilton, home to McMaster Children’s hospital, so helping sick kids also something I do a lot.
It’s a terrible fact of life that children get hurt or ill. We all know someone who has required the aid of a children’s hospital–either for themselves or their family. My brother is a survivor of Ewing’s Sarcoma. My son has severe food allergies. One of my friend’s friend’s has an infant with a terribly rare congenital disorder–Apert’s syndrome. My friend had an undiagnosed bladder condition all her life as a child until she moved to the GTA and attended the SickKids Hospital. They gave her medicine that she says changed her life.
Making sure that these kids not only get a chance to only grow up healthy but are also simply to be able to grow up is something that we should all care about.
I was invited to participate in The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk to benefit SickKids Campaign. Downtown in Toronto, on September 26, a couple of the BLUNTmoms and I will be there to help support The Great Camp Adventure Walk, working to help them to reach their 2015 fundraising goal of over $2 million.
You can be an important part of Toronto’s greatest adventure walk to benefit SickKids also, because we need your help to do it. I ask that you consider participating in this walk, either by registering and joining yourself (more details below!) or by helping contribute to the BLUNTmom Team’s fundraising goal of $1,500.
All donations for The Great Camp Adventure Walk go directly to The Possibilities Fund at SickKids Foundation. For SickKids, it’s the most flexible source of funding, and therefore one with the most potential to transform children’s health. SickKids Foundation is the largest charitable funder of child health research, learning, and care in Canada, and it raises funds on behalf of The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
I can’t think of many causes worthier of charitable donation than helping make kids healthy.
