Get in the Halloween Spirit with these Spooktacular Shows on Netflix #StreamTeam

I’ve been really busy this month, and as a result we don’t feel quite as in the Halloween spirit as we usually do, but I’ve got big plans to rectify that this weekend. It’s time for some pumpkin carving, pumpkin seed roasting, and Netflix-watching family time. I’ve got no intention of sharing my bed with a scared kid for the next month so there will be no viewings of Texas Chainsaw or Child’s Play 2 with the kid. Truthfully, I haven’t watched horror movies in years – there’s more than enough to scare me in the real world.

If you love horror movies though, Netflix has you covered with a great selection of movies that will make you jump at every late-night random noise in your house for the next month. From the critically acclaimed Netflix exclusive Hush to The Possession (which will make you swear off garage sales forever) there are some seriously scary movies on Netflix right now. Of course if you haven’t already binged on Stranger Things, it’s a perfect show for Halloween weekend or any weekend really. Season one is on Netflix right now and it has been renewed for a second season set for 2017.

For family Halloween viewing, Netflix has you covered with family friendly favourites. The classic The Nightmare Before Christmas will delight the Halloween and Christmas movie fans in your house with its lovable and not too scary characters. Bored with Halloween, Jack Skellington, Sally, Oogie Boogie, and the rest of the citizens of Halloween Town attempt to take Christmas as their own holiday but they don’t quite understand the concept and things go awry.

If you can’t get past the thought of a movie with the word Christmas in the title as a Halloween movie, Netflix delivers with the classic 1984 film Ghostbusters and the 1989 sequel Ghostbusters II. Despite being over 30 years old, Ghostbusters holds up remarkably well. If you took the family to see the remake this summer, watch the original this Halloween. With an all-star comedy cast including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Rick Moranis, Ghostbusters is the perfect family movie to watch with any kids who don’t like scary movies but still want to enjoy some Halloween fun.

If you’re looking for shorter shows to get you in the Halloween spirit, Netflix has a great selection of TV specials and short film collections perfect for viewing while waiting to go out trick-or-treating with your little ghoul on Halloween. DreamWorks has two collections of short films featuring favourite characters from movies including Shrek and Monsters vs Aliens. You can watch DreamWorks Spooky Stories and DreamWorks Spooky Stories 2 multiple ways, either watch the whole collection at once or watch each short on its own. The short films run between 7 and 26 minutes so you can pick one that fits the amount of time you have to fill. TV favourites available on Netflix include Scooby Doo, Monster High, Wallace and Gromit – The Curse of the Were Rabbit, Alvin and the Chipmunks meet the Wolfman, and the Goosebumps TV series that was based on the popular book series of the same name.

Whether you’re looking for a horror flick to watch after the kids go to bed or something to watch as a family to get you in the Halloween spirit, grab some treats and head over to Netflix and get ready to have a spooktacular Halloween – just remember to leave some candy to hand out on the big night!
