You might have seen the review I did just after Christmas for some of Penny Lane’s organic, vegan/vegetarian facial care products. Well, I like these gals a lot. Following the vlog, I stayed in correspondence with them.
I know I don’t talk about my son on this blog much beyond mentioning his food allergies now and then, but I asked them about him. You see, like many kids with allergies, he is prone to outbreaks of eczema. I say prone to outbreaks like it happens now and again, but the truth is his eczema really never fully goes away. Extreme cold and fits of temper both make him break out like a polka-dotted itch machine especially from the knees down, and scratching of course just makes it worse.
All I can do is keep him slathered as best as I can and try to explain that he shouldn’t rage because he has to make his bed or because his Lego contraption broke, because his legs will get itchy. You can see by the photo how well he’s taking to my reasoning.
Anyway, Bo Penny kindly sent me product to try just for him, including their Rough Skin Balm with Hemp Seed Oil. It doesn’t magically make his eczema go away, as much as I wish it would; to be honest, nothing I have found works this magic (heck, even the prescription-strength steroid cream takes both luck and days to clear him up).
But what it does do is it really improves the appearance and texture of his legs. The rashes feel smoother and less like broken, patchy skin. Even better, it soothes the itchiness. The canister is easy enough to handle for my five year old, and he will help himself to it whenever he’s feeling the need to scratch. It’s good for me, too. I get some itchy patches of psoriasis on my knees and elbows when things get too dry. It’s been good for my hands, which take a beating all the time between the working with food and washing my hands and dishes so often.
So Bo asked me if I’d be willing to host a giveaway for a $50 gift card! Um, yeah?! I’ve been happy with all the products I’ve used so far (especially the day cream–that stuff is gold)! So who else wants to try some organic, natural, non-toxic and vegan/vegetarian products that are made in Canada? Valentine’s Day is coming up! Time to treat yourself.
Bonus points, they have a referral program that if you sign up before January 31, you get $10 towards online purchase, and more money for every friend that signs up!
Conditions: Contest open to Canadians over the age of 18 only. Contest ends February 12, 2014.
Disclosure: I received no direct compensation for hosting the giveaway, but Bo did send me the rough skin balm and an oil to see if it would help my son.

Im really curious about their deodorants
Food Retro says
I’ve been using their lemon lime deodorant, Monica. It works quite well and I like it! It’s a little bit drier than standard deodorant, so I usually just apply it after I get out of the shower and that little bit of moisture makes it go on smooth. It also bears mentioning that it’s not an antiperspirant. I jog, and it keeps me from smelling like an old sweat sock, but it doesn’t stop me from sweating.
